Tips for Managing Spills this Holiday Season

’Tis the season of holiday parties. Whether hosting a party or a guest, we all know a house full of people, food and drink increases the chance of spills. So, this season, we want to arm you with tips and tricks to protect your gorgeous rugs.

First and most important, always remember the golden rule of cleaning rugs:

Blot, Never Scrub a Spot!

Wine, grease, mud oh my! Not sure which cleaning solution to use on each type of spill, we have you covered.

• Mild Detergent Solution: 2-4 drops to a cup of cold water. We recommended: Soil Away, Bioclean all purpose cleaner, Planet detergent, or Folex.
• Beer, Butter, Catsup, Chocolate, Coffee, Egg, Fruit, Jam, Grease, Gum, Ice Cream, Milk, Mud, Soft Drinks, Soot, Tea, White Wine, Red Wine
• Vinegar Solution: 1-2 tablespoons to a cup of cold water.
  • Beer, Milk
• Ammonia Solution: 1 teaspoon to a cup of cold water.
  • Berries, Catsup
• Dry Cleaning Solvent: Energene or rubbing alcohol available at most grocery stores. Use straight out of the bottle, apply to towel and blot spots.
  • Butter, Chocolate, Grease, Gum, Ice-cream, Soot
• Rinse with Water, Blot Dry:
  • Beer, Berries, Butter, Catsup, Chocolate, Coffee, Egg, Fruit, Jam, Grease, Gum, Ice Cream, Milk, Soft Drinks, Soot, Tea, White Wine, Red Wine

Candles are perfect for setting the mood during a party, but have you ever had to clean up a candle wax spill? Not the easiest thing. The trick is to scrape off excess, cover the area with paper & iron on lowest setting.

Now that you know how to handle almost any spill, no need to cry over spilled (fill in the blank) this year. Enjoy your holiday parties!
