Gabbeh patterns very basic with only a limited number of decorative, mostly rectangular lines or objects mainly resembling animals. The rugs are characterized by an abstract design that relies upon open fields of color and a playfulness with geometry. Although large fields of solid color are used in Gabbeh designs, the color is variegated (the color varies throughout the rug). Their simplicity is what makes them both interesting and an excellent choice for many different decor styles as they tend to go with everything. Because of their thickness they are extremely durable.
Placing the correct size rug in your space is as important as choosing the right color or pattern. A rug that it is too small will shift the balance of the room unfavorably. A rug that is too big, especially in open floor plans, may put the area designations off. There are a few rules of thumb, but a picture says it better.
