Marked by a wealth of different colors, patterns, designs, and fabrics, the Gabbeh collection from NW Rugs is a gallery of artistic beauty and expression. Pulling from a host of different traditions and philosophies, no two Gabbeh style Persian rugs are alike. No matter if you prefer bright, expressive colors, or soft, relaxing patterns, the variety available in this collection is sure to have a rug that will inject your home with fresh energy and engagement.
Legend has it that the Gabbeh rug was first woven by a women of the ancient Middle East, who was forbidden from seeing the man she loved, because he was from another tribe. To help arrange their secret meetings, she would weave zig zag patterns into the fabric when she could not see him, and small animal characters when she could. This helped to give Gabbeh rugs not only a wide range of designs, but also a deep level of expression. Indeed, Gabbeh itself is a Farsi word meaning, “raw or natural.”
These rugs take inspiration from the everyday lives of the people who wove them, and the artisans wove different aspects of themselves into the rug, spinning their tales in fabric. This personal touch gives each rug in the Gabbeh collection not only an original look, but a unique feeling. Each rug is a chronicle of a different moment, and a different emotion, and you can use this beautifully expressed emotion to create a natural, emotional connection within your own home.
