Solid-color Rugs

For a home with a calm, relaxed feel, select solid-color rugs with muted hues or colors from the same palette. Single-color décor schemes, especially those in light tones such as cream, caramel, and soft pastels, are generally soothing for the eye and tranquil for the mind. Alternatively, if a room already has a variety of colors and patterns in its décor, opt for a custom solid-color area rug to tie everything together. Solid area rugs are most often just one color; however, they may also have some variations of one shade, an effect known as “abrash.” Solid rugs may also have tonal texturing or designs added for more liveliness. Simple yet stylish, these types of rugs are available in a variety of fabrics, including wool, silk, bamboo, hemp, jute, and synthetic fibers.

Guide

Placing the correct size rug in your space is as important as choosing the right color or pattern. A rug that it is too small will shift the balance of the room unfavorably. A rug that is too big, especially in open floor plans, may put the area designations off. There are a few rules of thumb, but a picture says it better.
