Great visual presence is achieved in this unusual rug with strong geometrics softened by an extremely delicate palette. It is inspired by a 16th-century Egypto-Turkish carpet from the royal manufactory at Constantinople, woven in a bold “Middle-Star” design. A detailed tiled effect is created by rectangular rows of floral motifs encased within square blocks that radiate out from a large eight-pointed star, pulsating in vivid tones of crimson, golden-green and sapphire. The Nourison rug closely follows the strong lines of the original, but softens the effect with an updated palette of rose blush, accented with tones of periwinkle and lilac, which illuminate the softly gleaming and richly patinated center-medallion. This remarkable rug is redolent with ancient and ageless appeal.
