For the first time, Pantone has not one but two colors of the year, "Rose Quartz" and "Serenity". Did you know that pink and blue being attributed to boys and girls only began in the late 50's when roles were strictly defined?
However interesting their backstory for these colors is, we saw this coming starting early this year, didn't we (regular followers of #loveofrugs)? The dusty shades of blues, greens, pinks & yellows were showing up everywhere (including here on the @nwrugs feed).
A lot has changed since then and it seems Pantone is making a stab at trying to break it down into something more fluid. Now, the BIG question will be, will people indeed start using these colors in new ways, across gender lines, or will there be an opposite effect where the two get more solidified in their old designations.
Stay tuned ... we'll be posting more about these colors and how to use them in your decor. #loveofrugs

Placing the correct size rug in your space is as important as choosing the right color or pattern. A rug that it is too small will shift the balance of the room unfavorably. A rug that is too big, especially in open floor plans, may put the area designations off. There are a few rules of thumb, but a picture says it better. Use these handy guides by Interior Designer Lisa Ferguson to make the best choice.
