There is something about spring that gets us in the spirit to reinvent our home decor. The fresh flowers, the birds chirping, the sun shining, the reasons are endless. It is time to trade in the winter decor for something a little brighter. Here are four great ways to add the spirit of spring to your home this season.
Spring Into Fun Colors
Decorating with color is a great way to transition from one season to the next. Take your color inspiration from nature this spring. Try colors like greens, blues, pinks and yellows … think the sun, the sky, the flowers and the grass! Don’t be afraid to mix and match with these colors; baby pink and mint, cobalt and peach, coral and melon or check out this article from HGTV for more color inspirations. One color in particular will be very popular this season: turquoise.
Speaking of taking inspiration from outside, the easiest way to bring the energy of outside in, is with flowers! Great spring flowers for decorating are peonies, tulips, cherry blossoms, lilacs and lilies. Whichever flower speaks to your style most will be a great addition to your home. Although fresh is always best, it doesn’t last. You can find great fake versions of these flowers that will last for years to come. Flowers aren’t the only plants that can recharge your home decor. Try climbing plants and ferns.
Decorating with flowers does not have to stop in plant form. There are wonderful flower print rugs and artwork that can be enjoyed year round.
Splash of Bright Patterns
The addition of bright patterns is a perfect way to incorporate spring into your home. Change out kitchen curtains, hand towels, pillows and mats for a simple way to transition from winter to spring. For a bolder change, this could be the perfect time for a new rug that takes its inspiration from spring. Tribal rugs with bright patterns create the perfect statement piece for any room.
Spring decor trends are not limited to the indoors. After the long winter, it’s no surprise we are all dying to get outside. Why not make your outdoor space a true oasis. There are so many ways to decorate your outdoor space and many of the trends listed above can be applied to a screened-in porch, patio, deck or garden area.
Out front add a bright welcome mat, a spring-inspired wreath and some potted plants. Outdoor furniture with bright colors or fun patterned pillows and cushions are great for backyard gathering places. Adding an outdoor rug is the perfect way to turn an average outdoor area into a beautiful and tranquil extension of the home. If you have access to electrical outlets add some string lights so you can enjoy your space day and night. Now all that’s left is to make yourself some iced tea and enjoy your spring oasis.

Placing the correct size rug in your space is as important as choosing the right color or pattern. A rug that it is too small will shift the balance of the room unfavorably. A rug that is too big, especially in open floor plans, may put the area designations off. There are a few rules of thumb, but a picture says it better.
